What seemed like half a cow. Florentine style.
We were in Florence and wanted to find a good Florentine steak that we had heard and read about. Found a place called ZaZa that was apparently the #1 spot for this very dish on TripAdvisor, foursquare, etc. It was close to our place and near the San Lorenzo Market. Adrienne & I took the crew out one night and ordered one to split and when it was delivered to the table, our eyes and mouths were wide open.
I guess we ordered half a cow. It was ginormous. The only thing I could compare it to was the biggest steak in America which I tried to eat in Amarillo years ago at The Big Texan Steak Ranch. It was a joke and I didn’t even come close to finishing it, even when I shared with friends. It was 72 ounces…This steak in Florence was cooked really well on the outside but extremely rare on the inside. I’m talking red and bloody. We were a little sketched out but we took a bite and it melted in our mouth. We came close to finishing it but didn’t make it to the end. It was just too much. Would have been solid to split between 3 people or with an olympic athlete. I’m talking a vegan’s worst nightmare. This was for true carnivores and Adrienne & I don’t eat a ton of red meat so this disqualified red meat for quite a while.
If you the meat-eating type and you find yourself in Florence, this is a must. Several places to get it but from what we noticed, ZaZa was a good choice. One of these bad boys will run you around 45-95 Euro depending on the place. To all my vegan friends, I love you guys, don’t hate me. This is a step backwards towards a more flexitarian lifestyle that I would prefer but I couldn’t deny it this time around. When in Florence I guess. I’ll make it up to you later and eat a huge bag of Kale & other delicious veggies. Cheers.
