Gusta Pizza: Florence, Italy
I’ve had some killer pies. Chicago & New York had my heart when it came to Pizza. That deep dish is unforgettable but I must say, this pizza in Florence was magic. Three different people in our group had heard from someone that Gusta was THE spot for Pizza so we had to make the trek. They all knew something that we didn’t, that was for sure. We walked in, the place was pretty packed and we thought about taking pies to go but it smelt too good in there and we all knew this was something we had to sit down and enjoy there. Luckily, a big table opened up and we took our seats after we made our picks.
There were about 5-6 pizzas to choose from, we ordered about 3 different ones within the group and the special of the day was THE ONE. It just hit the spot. They had it all down. The crust, the ingredients, the love that went into each pizza and it was all baked in the woodfire oven. The cheese was epic, the meat had just the right spice. They seemed to have this down to a science. I knew this when we all looked at each other and were like, um…WHOA. This is unreal. Joe, my pizza expert buddy from Buffalo, NY verified this thing. He said, “Yup. Best. Pizza. Ever” I was certain before but Joe’s approval solidified the experience. One thing is for sure, we will not forget this one. Legend has it that Naples does it even better, which I can’t even begin to imagine but would be happy to go and find out! One day...
