Heaven, with wine.
This place was truly in a category of its own. Beauty, serenity, luxury and history. We took the train from the Termini station in Rome to the Chuisi station near Montepulciano. There we met our rental cars and once we plugged in the coordinates to our place, we rode down the expansive and windy roads all the way to the front gates of the estate. We buzzed Maria, who would be the housekeeper and she let us right in. We pulled up and were instantly amazed. We had our own Tuscan Villa for the next few days and we had no words. Maria greeted us with big smiles and the best bottle of Prosecco I’ve ever had. We dropped our bags, went on a mini guided tour of the estate and I really couldn’t believe I was there. We went into town to pick up some snacks and when we came back, we looked into what wineries we would visit and who could accommodate our group. It was the off season so some places were closed. Avignonesi & Talosa were closed so we ended up visiting Contucci, de’ Ricci, Gatavecchi and Ercolani. Since it was the slower time of the year, we had the chance to spend time with the families who ran everything and really talk through the process and ask a lot of questions. The wine was simply wonderful. Pure, precise, smooth and full bodied. Just the way I like it! As we enjoyed more enough wine, we strolled down the empty streets of Montepilciano and enjoyed the views and really felt like we had the whole city to ourselves. It couldn’t have been better. Driving around was fun and the italian countryside really is as beautiful as people say.
All in all, a full and beautiful experience. I can’t wait to come back.
